Another 'Exploring Music' Evening with Graeme **Note time change**

One of our members (Graeme Walker) is holding a series of 'EXPLORING MUSIC’ afternoon/evenings which several 'Gentle Jaunters' who  previously attended, have thoroughly enjoyed.

Please join him for an evening aimed at folk who enjoy music but would like to know a bit more about the composers, background etc.

"The setting is amazing...a lovely drawing room overlooking the Dean village"

As well as classical, he’ll cover many other genres of music too. He’ll play cd's and DVD's as well as the £76,000 Steinway and talk about the background to the music.  He hopes people may become interested in going as a group to concerts over the winter season by introducing some of the music and composers.

Wine, coffee and nibbles will be provided.

There is an £8 charge

As this 'evening' is not part of our 'Gentle Jaunts' anyone interested should contact Graeme direct by email on  [masked] - or post a message to him here.

Thank you Mike for your kind words...I think it was the best one so far...enhanced by the cameo appearances of Claudio playing his own composition, Graham Paton playing beautifully and Rhona demonstrating vibrato and playing her first G major scale in public...! The experiment of singing a tribute to Leonard Cohen as a group worked well too.?probably with tge m

I'm really sorry about this but the bookings secy for Belford Road has just informed me that the premises are being used right up until 7pm and I need at least half an hour to set up my equipment. So i'll have to postpone the start to 7.45 for an 8pm start. Please message me to let me know that you know the change of time...don't want you standing outside and then watching me set up

  • Dennis D.

I'm looking forward to hearing all this quality music and meeting some other music lovers. I've been away from Edinburgh too long and am loving all the lively music-making here and every possible type of music event. AND......I haven't been in this venue for a long time so it will be good to be in these elegant surroundings again. Be gentle with me as I'm the new kid on the block!

    November 28

    • graeme

Most of the attendees are new kids on the block Denis...a few have been before but not many....i like to promote a two way atmosphere rather than just me spouting forth...so, for instance i'll ask what you think of a particular piece or get you to speak about what you like to listen to...there's absolutely no pressure and most folk I would think appreciate hearing each other's opinions...there's no right or wrong...hopefully just a bunch of folk there to have a good time...

      November 28

  • graeme

Leonard Cohen has been much on my mind the last few months, Planning to sing a tribute....with audience participation perhaps?....not compulsory, so don't be put off. I was chastised last year by a ""classical music buff" for playing a dvd of an "ageing crooner in a trilby..."...just makes me more determined to mix it...
first we take Manhattan...then we take...
    Belford Road?!

Would love to come along but am away on hols

    November 26

  • graeme

Since it's Christmas, I will play part of Bach's sublime Christmas Oratorio as well as dvd's of his joyful Mass in B minor, Handel's Messiah, Telemann....one of the most underrated composers of the 18th century,...
oh and Domenico Scarlatti and Bach on the steinway...
also.... hope to discuss how to prepare a piece for performance or exam with the minimum of tears and explore what performance anxiety involves, with tips to help overcome this.
All that AND wine, coffee and nibbles....
    has to be fun...

    November 26

  • graeme

Since Christmas is fast approaching I will include the the wonderfully joyous Christmas Oratorio by Bach...truly one of the most sublime pieces of music ever written....!

    November 22

  • graeme

I'm planning to commemorate Leonard Cohen as well...O2 concert from 2008...and maybe have you join in Hallelujah...!

    November 16

  • graeme

17 coming so far...should be a good evening...don't be alarmed if i'm wearing a patch over one eye....!

    November 11

  • graeme

I plan to explore what conductors do, as well as what makes a great performance. As usual, there will be a wide variety of music played in a relaxed and social atmosphere. I'm encouraged by the interest shown in this from the different Meetups on which it's posted.
