We're pushing GeoDC back a week this month due to the holiday, so plan to join us on January 8th to socialize, network, and hear about the work people are doing with maps, GIS, geodata, and more. Here's a look at our lineup so far:
• Nicki Dlugash (https://twitter.com/nickidlugash) will talk about brand and function in the design of custom base maps.
• Ian Schuler (https://twitter.com/ianschuler) will talk about Development Seed's ongoing work opening and mapping data on Afghanistan elections, and how mapping election data can help track fraud, conduct media outreach to female voters, and organize the distribution of polling stations.
• Jon Marino (https://twitter.com/jonpmarino) will talk about his efforts to research and map quotations posted around DC at cityofwordsdc.org (http://cityofwordsdc.org/).
We're still looking for speakers, so if you have something to share with the group, let us know!
We'll meet at 7:00 pm at the upstairs bar at Stetsons (http://stetsons-dc.com/) at 16th and U Streets NW. Introductions and lightning talks will start at 7:30 pm. Stetsons is a 21 and over venue. If you're not yet 21 but want to attend, message us via meetup and we'll do our best to get you in.
