Just in time for the snowy season, employees of Philadelphia's Office of Innovation and Technology and the Streets Department will be presenting on the technology being implemented by the City of Philadelphia to enhance snow plow operations. See below for a full description of the presentation.

This meetup will be in the Innovation Lab on the 16th floor of the Municipal Services Building (1401 John F Kennedy Blvd, Philadelphia, PA). You'll need to sign in at the front desk so make sure to have an ID with you.

The Office of Innovation and Technology at the City of Philadelphia are developing a solution for monitoring city vehicle movements in near-real-time. While there are some off-the-shelf solutions to process raw GPS locations from vehicles, they often result in false-positives due to GPS inaccuracies, are unable to solve vehicle routes between GPS pings, and do not run quickly enough for most real-time applications. Philly Vehicle Locator (PVL) is an algorithmic workflow that can process multiple vehicles’ (400+) location information in near-real-time to determine detailed vehicle movements and routes. In addition to route solving, PVL maintains a historical archive of all street segment visits, relates additional vehicle and city datasets, and provides accessible output datasets for use in dashboard applications and reporting operations. At this event, you will learn the benefits of PVL over off-the-shelf solutions and the city’s implementation plan for PVL moving forward.
