The Dockery Lake Trail is a less traveled trail that branches off the Appalachian Trail near Woody GAp in North GA. These side trails are often just as pretty as the AT if not more. They usually run along streams and creeks so there's much more variety of plants and wildlife.
The Basic Plan A:
This will be an in and out trail total distance about 10 miles with 1550 feet elevation climb.
We'll park at the Recreation Area. Hike up thDockery Lake Trail to meet the AT which will take us to another short side blue blazed trail leading to an opening to North GA's natural cathedral at Preaching Rock.
TBA (this is if weather, trail damage, road closures, etc. alter plan A.
This is an all day event. Bring lunch, snacks and at least 2 liters of water.
Weather is always challenge this time of year when hiking in the mountains so bring layers and rain gear to hike in (I like to bring dry change of shoes & clothes for ride home)
I can't commit to what time we'll return depends on the group, but my goal is to be off the trail by sundown. Arriving back at carpool around 6pm
Carpooling: Drive time about 1 hour, distance 52 miles:
I'll meet anyone interested in carpooling at the Cracker Barrell. If you're coming up 400 northbound take Exit 11 Winward Pkwy go left and the 1st plaza on right
I plan on driving and can take three with me. If you plan on meeting me at the trail head I'll do my BEST to find you.
Please be considerate to your driver and pitch in for cost of gas/maintance to their vehicle. This dollar amount varies depending on number of passengers, aprox. $10-$12 per person. This will be up to your driver.
