Allatoona Gold Panners Club - Gold Panning Outing in Cherokee County, Ga

Gold Panning Outing in Cherokee County, Ga.

Allatoona Gold Panners-

Novices are welcome, we'll teach you how to pan !

What - Gold panning outing of Allatoona Gold Panners.

When - Saturday, Mar 16, 10:30 am. If inclement weather, outing is canceled. You can leave anytime you want; we usually stay 3-4 hours. Panners Flea Market at 10:30.

Meet at - Little River Marina Store, 6983 Bells Ferry Rd, Canton, GA. It's next to the "Grille." We'll introduce ourselves and cover a few basics then convoy to a local creek in the Dahlonega Gold Belt.

What Creek- Blankets Creek on Sixes Road, Canton. We'll park at the Sixes Presbyterian Church, 2335 Sixes Rd, Canton, GA, then walk next door to the Blankets Creek Mountain Bike Park and down to the creek.

Flea Market – At 10:30 a.m., same place. Bring your extra gold prospecting/panning items to sell, too. Come early for best deals. And, if you have something to advertise to sell or you want to buy, send me a description and contact info and I’ll add it the sell/buy list that’ll be sending out soon.

Wear - Layers of clothing to peel off as it warms up. Wear long pants (may be briars, ticks & poison ivy), tall rubber boots (get at Walmart) or waders (with warm sox), long rubber work gloves for cold water (get at Harbor Freight).

Bring - Pan, classifier, sucker bottle, definitely a full-size, long-handle spade shovel (partly for safety reasons), water, folding stool, mosquito lotion, and zip lock bags to water proof your electronics/wallet. Bring any extra items you want to sell, too. Travel light (back pack helps).

Optional items - Snack, camera, cell, vial, eye dropper, crevice-ing tools, lanyard to hold your sucker bottle, and bucket to take home concentrates if you want.

Supplies - Most of us use the Garrett Standard Gold Panning Kit that Little River Marina Store sells for about $30 as it has everything you need except boots and shovel. They also sell the how-to Recreational Gold Panning Guide, the Lake Allatoona Gold Map plotted with over two dozen confirmed gold creeks. Also drinks, snacks and mosquito repellent.

Panning Rules, Etiquette and Safety- This creek is on Army Corps property. They only allow prospecting in the stream bed with pans and shovels. And, please refill your digging holes. See attached for more details.

Who Else - Kids, friends, novices, observers, & pets welcome. NO need to RSVP.

Got a Something to Share? Send me your experience or anything else to share with other panners and I’ll send it out.

May Your Pan Have Color,

Rob Kelly
