Backpack Chattooga Scenic River Trail-16.7 miles

We will hike the Georgia section of the Chattooga Scenic River Trail, located south of Clayton, GA.  This trail merges with the Bartram Trail at Dicks Creek Road.  I have not hiked all of the trail, so it will be an exploratory hike.  This will be primitive camping, but water should be plentiful.  Weather should be mild but it can vary greatly this time of year.  Elevation gains are from 1,582 feet to 1,208 feet do not vary significantly.

Adults only.  Dogs are welcome.

If you are carpooling, we will meet at the Indian Trail Park and Ride, just off I-85, at 7:00 AM and leave promptly at 7:30 AM.  This should put us at the trail head at around 10:00 AM.  I drive a slate gray Tundra pick-up.

Carpoolers should help with cost, a guideline is $0.40 per mile is a guideline and cost should be divided between everyone in the vehicle.

Basic items you will need, tent/hammock, sleeping bag/pad, hiking poles, 1-2 liters of water, lunch (2), dinner (1), and breakfast (1), plenty of snacks, etc....You can find detailed pack lists on REI,com and Backpacker.com

I will have a water filter/bucket, saw, and a bear rope for hanging food bags.

This is a point to point hike. We will set up a shuttle with our vehicles. We will start at either point on the trail US 76 and or at US 28 at the Russell Bridge.  Total miles for the weekend will be around 16.7, we will take our time and not rush. I would expect to do 8.0 miles per day. We should be back early evening on Sunday, but I can almost guarantee the group will want to stop and grab some grub in Clayton on the way back.

Although, I would rate this hike easy to moderate, distance will be the big issue not the terrain.  The is not a beginners hike.  You should have some miles with at least a day pack under your belt this spring.  If your unsure call me and we can discuss.  Make sure your up to carrying a 35-40 lb pack for two days.

Please call me at[masked](cell) if you have any questions about equipment.
