This group is for anyone interested in learning more about German ancestors who, in 1762-63, were invited by Catherine the Great in Russia to come to her country to farm. They were provided land and limited resources to develop their farms and villages and granted certain freedoms and exemptions. Many Germans responded to her invitation over the next 20-30 years and moved to Russia. The revocation of many of these benefits 100 years later prompted many of the Germans to migrate to the U.S., Canada, and South America. If you want to learn more about these "Germans from Russia," come meet with the Southern California Germans from Russia. We meet five times a year and the meeting dates/places will be posted here. Our meetings for 2016 will be posted shortly.
