The enchanting blossoms of spider lilies seem to appear out of nowhere following late-spring rains. Let's drive down 77-S to Landsford Canal in Fort Lawn, SC for an easy hike.
Participants can see and experience the magnificence of the endangered Rocky Shoals Spider Lilies that make their home in the middle of the Catawba River.
Meet at Lowe's Home store in Whitehall Commons, S. Tryon parking lot 9:30am OR Landsford at 10:30am. The rare flowers enter peak blooming period for only one month (mid-May to early June).
After we do a short 3 mile hike through the Canal trail where we will see the history of the canals, which is pre-railroad. This trail will take us back to the parking lot, where we will return to our cars, grab our coolers and eat lunch. Pack yourself a lunch, apple or piece of fruit, sandwich, granola bar & beverage. Try to bring an extra sandwich or bake a batch of brownies or cookies to share with others, please....
10:30am is the meeting time at Landsford, give yourself an extra 15 minutes to arrange car-pooling and drive down there. See y'all Saturday May 19th 2018!
