GYCO welcomes climbers at all levels regardless of age, gender, experience levels, sexual orientation, political affiliations or lack of humor :) We are a group of outdoor enthusiasts who love adventure, who make lifelong friendships or who meet the love of their lives (GYCO Founder has personally matchmade 11 couples through GYCO meetups). We have a variety of climbing events so try them out. GYCO offer indoor and outdoor meetups such as sport, traditional climbing, bouldering, alpine/ice climbing and on occasion mountaineering meetups too. GYCO promotes safe rock climbing that expose members to new safety concepts and techniques.
GYCO leaders are event organizers or “Ambassadors of Fun." They volunteer their time to lead great events. They are happy to share their knowledge. Note that we are not professionals or guides so everyone must be personally responsible for their safety and well-being. Yet it is our goal to combine knowledge of the activity, proper equipment and enough planning to make safety our highest goal. Nevertheless, accidents can happen. Personal responsibility is mandatory. By participating in our events, you agree not hold the leaders or members responsible for your safety. You don't have to be in great physical shape to participate. However, you should not have any health issues that would prevent you from enjoying physical exertion. As you enjoy various adventures with us, you will enjoy the feeling of getting in shape.
Please be respectful when you RSVP to events, and only RSVP if you know you will make the event especially if there is a limited number of spots available. If you are on waiting list chances are you may come off quickly so check back often. If you end up with 3 no-shows, or 3 cancel at the last minute without letting us know within 7 days of event you may receive a verbal warning. After 3rd occurrence you could be removed from pending meetups you are signed up for and/or we have the right to remove you from GYCO but we hope we never have to do this because we really want to climb with you :)
Communications: As mentioned in the sign up process, it greatly helps us organize trips if we have your cell phone number and email address. Occasionally, we send out a text message to members to let you know about a last minute opening on a raft trip. More often, we find that someone is missing while caravaning to an event and by calling, we can get you back with the group. It's not required to send us your information, but it's very helpful. Please send your contact information to: Michael.firstname.lastname@example.org
Likewise, some of our members have medical issues that the leaders should know about. Perhaps you are diabetic, have mental health concerns or have a heart condition. We expect that you will consult with your doctor and be sure that it is appropriate for you to participate in our events. Our events range from very easy to very strenuous. If you have a medical issue we should know about, please drop us an email at: Michael.email@example.com

GYCO Liability Disclaimer:
Climbing is a fun but dangerous sport. As a consenting adult and member of GYCO you are solely responsible for your own safety. By joining this Meetup and RSVP'ing for meetups, you acknowledge and voluntarily agree that rock climbing entails significant risks which could result in physical or emotional injury, possible death, or damage to self, property, or even third parties; By joining GYCO this confirms you accept and assume all responsibility and risks that could occur in this activity, whether caused or allegedly caused by negligence or natural occurrences within GYCO and that you voluntarily release, forever discharge, and agree to indemnify and hold harmless GYCO and/or any of its Organizers from any and all claims, demands, or causes of action, which are in any way connected to your participation in this Meetup. In order to participate in this meetup you must abide by these terms. When you sign up for GYCO you acknowledged this policy so this is statement echoes that sentiment. By reading this you doubly agree to abide by these terms.
GYCO is the only climbing meetup in Norcal that offers it's members safety classes such as basic anchors, self rescue, trusting your trad gear and how to lead. We are proud to offer these through Outdoor Adventure Club and SAANO Adventures. Learning how to build basic anchors is empowering so I encourage all to take this class and the others. Unlike some climbing meetups our instructors are actually AMGA certified to teach at group level. Anything less is someone just showing you what they have learned but that does not make them a certified teacher, guide or instructor. Please ask for one's certification if you are unsure. I, for example, have experience with building anchors, leading but I share my experience with peers and not "teach" Does that make sense?
May the climb you find with us help you change your life in a meaningful way. Climbing not only changed my life but it saved my life! To learn more about my story watch the following 2 minute trailer of Rock-A-Holic, a film I am currently producing inspired by GYCO: rockaholicthemovie.com (http://rockaholicthemovie.com/)
If you have questions email the founder or Event Organizers by clicking on their profiles and "Send." Our Event Organizers love to help out new members and will gladly answer any questions you have about the trip, what gear to bring, weather, carpools, camping logistics etc. So have fun and be safe!
