Learn Frankie Manning's Shim Sham with Valerie
7-9pm $25 per person Pre-registration is required at www.BrecksvilleArts.org Want to learn Frankie Manning’s version of the Shim Sham that is a tradition in swing dance scenes around the globe? Of course, you want to be able to join in the fun the next time you see people line up to do this well-loved vintage line dance! The original version of the Shim Sham was created in Harlem, NY in the early 1930s by tap dancers, Leonard Reed and Willie Bryant. This fun and easy routine was often used as an “all hands on deck” finale in shows where dancers, singers, comedians, and musicians alike would join in. Many years later Frankie Manning, the ambassador of Lindy Hop, created a longer version of the Shim Sham by repeating parts of the Shim Sham routine with a small variation, and adding on an entire new section at the end. This workshop is for dancers of all levels as there is no one too new, too experienced, too young, or too old to not enjoy partaking in the Shim Sham.

What we're about

Check out this video that Thomas Mulready from CoolCleveland.com took at one of our recent swing dance meetups. http://www.coolcleveland.com/video/?vid=TR8... (http://www.coolcleveland.com/video/?vid=TR89QTpPuYY&page=0He)

This group is for people who are interested in doing or learning how to do one of the easiest and most common forms of partnered dancing--Swing dancing! Swing dancing can be anything from Jitterbug to Lindy Hop to Charleston to Balboa and more. Basically, if it was danced to swing or jazz music from the 1920s to the 1950s--it swings! We are open to dancers of all levels! We were all beginners once and we encourage beginners to come and join our group. You do NOT need a partner to attend one of our twice monthly dances, any of our 5 week lessons or our special topic workshops. Although it is not required, most people do rotate partners during our lessons. We encourage rotating partners as it is one of the best ways to learn the lead and follow aspects of partnered dancing. This group is sponsored by the swing dance professionals at Get Hep Swing. Get Hep Swing was founded by Valerie Salstrom in 1998 and she is a multi-year National and International Swing dance champion in many swing dance forms. Please see complete details at www.GetHepSwing.com

What is the best thing you can do for your health? Move just 30 minutes a day.

Taking a one hour dance class just once a week can lead to a great improvement in your overall physical health....and mental and emotional health as well.

Mild cardio + moving to great music + making new friends = a better, healthier, happier life.
