Black Friday — or Chill Friday, it's your choice the day after Thanksgiving. Chill Friday, is a concept crafted by our benefactor, Great Outdoor Provision Co., to denote a day of devotion to the outdoors — and if you want to swing by the store afterwards to browse, that's cool, too.
We'll be honoring the spirit of Chill Friday with a day-after hike at McDowell Nature Preserve. Our 3.1-mile hike on the Pine Hollow,4 Seasons, Cove, King Fisher, and Shady Hollow Trails loops around half of the park, follows a stream, overlooks Lake Wylie, meanders through the woodlands, and crosses over several Docks and Picnic areas. It's a mostly flat hike, the perfect medicine to wake you from your turkey-induced tryptophan torpor. A good hike, too, for kicking off an active holiday season.
We rate this hike easy to moderate, depending upon how active you've been. This is perfect for newbies or anyone who is recently getting back into hiking, and anyone just wanting to get outdoors and work off Thanksgiving Dinner.
