176 Millpond Road, Gatesville, NC
We enjoyed it so much last time, lets do it again.
People that were not able to make it the first time, hopefully you can attend this hike. If you were lucky enough to attend before, please let others respond first, so they can enjoy this as well. Everyone is still welcome of course. This is a 6-mile loop on Lassiter Trail, which penetrates the dense woods in this adjunct to the Great Dismal Swamp. Mostly flat trail makes this 6-miler seem shorter than it is. Average hike time is 2.5 hours. Water is only available to the start and end of hike, please bring own bottles/bladder.
Merchants Millpond State Park is known for its namesake 760-acre millpond, long-since abandoned for power generation and taken over by impressive bald cypress and tupelo. The pond makes for great paddling which is what the park is known for.
Stay after the hike and replenish with some snacks and great conversation. Paddling the Millpond is also a great time. Canoe/kayak rentals are available at a hourly rate.
Will keep you updated on the mosquito report, hoping they will all be gone by December.
I love nature in all its varied ,wonderful forms and I'm looking to meet others to share this joy.
