Southease Village in East Sussex is located in the Ouse Valley, roughly midway between the county town of Lewes, to the north, and the port of Newhaven to the south. Nestling in an idyllic setting in the South Downs National Park. The South Downs Way winds its way through the village towards the nearby River Ouse and the railway station. The village boasts a population of approximately 50 and a church whose history can be traced back over 1000 years.
The church has one of only three round towers in Sussex, all of which are located in the Ouse Valley and all three built in the first half of the 12th century.
At the time of the Doomsday Book a thriving community was in place and the village appears to have been the biggest herring fishery in the district, having been assessed for 38,500 herring while Brighton had a mere 4,000.
The fishery may be long gone but we remain a vibrant community with regular events taking place in the village throughout the year.
We will be staying in a lovely hostel with great views across the South Downs
We will be in shared rooms 4 or 6 per room in Male or Female dorms, all beds have linen provided (no need for sleeping bags). Showers and Toilets are located in the corridor.
