GDIPGH: June Updates

A former member
Hi Everyone! Here are some recent updates for our chapter.

Upcoming Classes
We have two great classes coming up in June that you won’t want to miss. We only have a few spots left for each class and RSVPs close soon, so please sign up now if you want to attend!

HTML & CSS for Beginners
Teacher: Rachel Thompson
When: June 22-23 12:15-5pm
Where: ModCloth (Crafton)
We'll explore how to use HTML and CSS to build websites, introduce you to the tools you need for the job, and more. This class is a great intro for beginners and is a prerequisite for many of our other classes. If you’re new, this is a great class for you.

Designing Responsively
Guest teacher: Val Head
When: June 29, 9:15am-4:30pm
Where: UPMC Technology Development Center (Bakery Square)
In this class you'll learn the basics of what it takes to make a web site responsive. This class is not offered regularly, so you should check it out now if you’re interested.

As the group has grown, we are getting more requests to provide scholarships. This is important because we do not want cost to prevent women from learning to code. We could use your help in finding local organizations or businesses that are interested in donating to our scholarship fund. Please have anyone interested in donating email us at.
Be sure to thank those who have already helped with the scholarship fund: Carney+Co, Wijmo, and Derrick Brashear.

We’re always looking for volunteers to help out with organization, teaching, and assisting teachers. If you are new and interested in helping out please fill out our teaching application and/or volunteer application.

Our Meetup group now has over 300 members (328 as of when I wrote this)! We’re very excited to see this growth. Be sure to share with your friends, so we can get even more people involved.
Our Spring Social was a great success. Thanks to everyone who attended and participated! Special thanks to AlphaLab for sharing their space with us and donating food and drinks for the event.
