JavaScript is used to build interactive websites and web apps. If you've played online games, viewed image slideshows, or explored interactive visualizations, you've seen JavaScript at work!

In this class, we'll introduce you to JavaScript programming, and cover jQuery and JSON basics, to get you started building your own interactive websites.

This is a four part class on the following day from 6:30pm - 8:30pm:

• Thursday, October 24th

• Thursday, October 31st (We are planning something fun for Halloween)

• Thursday, November 7th

• Thursday, November 14th

**Due to the restrictions of Meetup's registration, we can't schedule multi-day events, so keep in mind that this Meetup event serves as registration for the entire class.

What to expect

In this class, we will provide you with some of the basics of programming, teach you to use JavaScript to manipulate websites, and start you on the path to becoming a great web developer.

Understanding the basics of programming, while helpful, is not required. This is an introductory course and therefore will cover the basics of programming but is not an introductory programming class.

Concepts will be reinforced through hands on, in-class exercises. Each week will include a small homework assignment which will not be graded but will be evaluated with feedback from the teaching staff.

Class Preparation and Prerequisites

Familiarity with HTML and CSS is assumed for this class - you don't need to be an expert, but an understanding of tags, attributes and how to they interact with CSS are needed to fully participate. If you do not have an understanding of how to write and build a web page using HTML and CSS, please consider taking our Intro to HTML/CSS offering first.

Tech Requirements:

A modern laptop bought within the last 5 years (Note: a netbook or tablet is NOT a substitute!)Google Chrome installed (or Firefox is ok)A text editor installed. We recommend Sublime Text 2 (It's free and available for both Mac and PC).

The course will be taught by Laura Vecchio, a Rich Application Developer at Bose ( (
