Intro to HTML & CSS

Want to learn how to build your own website? Already have your own website but want to have more control over it? Interested in learning to program but want to start small? This class is for you!

We will guide you through the basics of HTML and CSS, give you some readily-applicable skills, and answer any questions you may have along the way.

This class takes place over four consecutive Wednesday evenings, as follows:

Wednesday, May 7th - 6:30pm to 8:30pm

Wednesday, May 14th - 6:30pm to 8:30pm

Wednesday, May 21st - 6:30pm to 8:30pm

Wednesday, May 28th - 6:30pm to 8:30pm

The cost of the class covers all four classes. Please review our refund policy before committing to this class, as we are unable to offer refunds. Financial aid in the form of scholarships is available, please email the leadership team to request an application.

The course will be taught by Corina Acosta

Corina Acosta loved to code the minute she made a turtle move across the screen with GOTO statements in the 7th grade. Without any female role models to encourage her to focus on computers, her love of code remained dormant while she went on to pursue her love of Dance and Musical Theater. She eventually returned to her love of technology and pursued a B.S. in Computer Science at California State University, Northridge in 2003. She has since developed a career in Web Development spanning over 10 years and is currently part of an innovative team at Berklee Online, the extension school for Berklee College of Music. Corina has a desire to inspire and encourage other women to pursue technology with the hope of closing the gender gap that exists in STEM occupations and education.

Please install the following on your computer prior to class:

• A laptop and charger.

• A code editor installed. (We recommend Notepad++ for Windows and SublimeText or TextWrangler for Mac. Both are available free for download.)

• A modern browser installed. (We recommend Google Chrome (best) or Mozilla Firefox with the Firebug plugin.)

Please join us for our next Code and Coffee on Thursday, April 17th  - All the details here --->http://www.meetup.com/Girl-Develop-It-Boston/events/171694792/

Hi Kerry! My slides are available for download here: https://github.com/cod.... Go ahead and take a look at Class 1 slides and let me know if you have any questions. It would be best to take all four classes but I understand how things can come up so please don't hesitate to reach out to me via email if you have any questions about the slides. I am making a few updates to them so I should have the latest slides available for download this afternoon. I will post an update to this meetup when the latest slides are uploaded.

I'd like to be kept in touch with about this. I can't start May 7th, but maybe the next set of classes. Is the best way to check this site or is there a mailing list?

Thank you very much, all my notifications are set and I hope to attend the course next time it's offered. I won't be able to come to the Code & Coffee this week but maybe in May. All this is a very welcome resource for me. Thank you very much.

    Hi Corina,
I'm interested in joining these sessions but had a question about the class structure. Is this more theoretical or will we be asked to work/create our own project during these sessions?

Hi Venita! This class is definitely hand's on as students work through creating their own basic website as we cover the basics of HTML/CSS coding over the span of four weeks. I hope you decide to join us!
