Want to learn how to build your own website? Already have your own Tumblr/Wordpress/etc site, but want to have more control over it? Interested in learning to program but want to start small? This class is for you!
This class is great for beginners - no previous coding experience required!
We will guide you through the basics of HTML and CSS, give you some readily-applicable skills, and answer any questions you may have along the way.
CLASS DATES: This 2-session HTML/CSS course runs over TWO Saturdays. Your payment covers attendance for both days.
Class 1: HTML Basics & Introduction to CSS — Saturday, March 18th, 9:00am-12:00pm
Class 2: CSS Positioning & Page Layout & Common Web Layouts, Tips, and Tricks — Saturday, March 25th, 9:00am-12:00pm
The course will be taught by Catherine Meade with several teaching assistants present during each class.
Catherine Meade is a Web Developer at Sparkbox, a commercial web shop in Southwest Ohio. She graduated from Miami University with a B.S.A. in Art Education and taught high school for a time. Before Sparkbox, Catherine spent nearly three years working for Cincinnati StartUp ChoreMonster.
A strong passion for education has never left her; she spends a good amount of time volunteering with Girl Develop It, teaching code classes, and generally helping out. Catherine's hobbies include reading, video games, tabletop games, oil painting, and boffer sports.
At this time, you will need to provide your own laptop - PC or Mac - to participate in the course.
Please install the following prior to class:
• Download Sublime Text 3 - the preferred text editor
If you need assistance getting any of these setup on your laptop please come to one of our upcoming Code & Coffee events. We'll be happy to help!
POLICIES & GUIDELINES:
All attendees are expected to abide by the Girl Develop It Code of Conduct.
At least 4 students will need to enroll for this course for it to be hosted. If we have less than 4 students registered for the class as of three days prior to the class start date, we will cancel the class and reschedule for a later date. Any students registered at that time will be refunded their full registration fee.
If you need to cancel, we prefer not to issue refunds and would invest your registration fee back into our scholarship fund. We know sometimes there are extenuating circumstances so please email us if you find yourself in one, but please note that we will not issue refunds for cancellations that occur within 3 days of the class start date nor can we transfer your registration to another class.
