It’s #Hacktoberfest 2018 and Girl Develop It Dayton is joining the fun! Let’s celebrate open source over food, learning, and great company.
Our generous sponsor, AIS, will be providing pizza and drinks!
Hacktoberfest — brought to you by DigitalOcean in partnership with GitHub and Twilio — is a month-long celebration of open source software. Maintainers are invited to guide would-be contributors towards issues that will help move the project forward, and contributors get the opportunity to give back to both projects they like, and ones they've just discovered. No contribution is too small—bug fixes and documentation updates are valid ways of participating.
Can't make it to this event? Hacktoberfest is virtual and open to participants from around the globe. Sign up to participate online https://hacktoberfest.digitalocean.com/.
Rules and Prizes
First sign up on the Hacktoberfest site (https://hacktoberfest.digitalocean.com/). If you open up five pull requests between October 1 and October 31, you'll win a free, limited edition Hacktoberfest T-shirt. (Pull requests do not have to be merged and accepted; as long as they've been opened between the very start of October 1 and the very end of October 31, they count towards a free T-shirt.)
Connect with other Hacktoberfest participants (Hacktobefestants?) by using the hashtag, #hacktoberfest, on your social media platform of choice.
Would you like to showcase your open source project and facilitate participant PR's? Chat us on Slack or email [masked].
• We'll start by identifying open-source issues on Github (https://github.com/) for each of us to work on. You can come with a specific issue in mind, or identify one at the beginning of the event.
• Work on your contributions as individuals, or as groups.
• If you want, share what you worked on.
Not familiar with GitHub (https://github.com/)? This is a great, safe place to learn! Also check out our workshop the weekend before, Code Collaboration with Version Control (https://www.meetup.com/Girl-Develop-It-Dayton/events/254329383/).

Code & Coffee is an ongoing opportunity for you to practice your skills, meet new friends, and get help if you need it. Bring your laptop, your recent projects, and your programming problems!
All are welcome regardless of gender or skill level, whether or not you've attended past Girl Develop It events. If you're a beginner, we'll be right there to help you work through your questions as needed.
Intermediate and advanced folks are welcome to join as well. Please come share your wisdom and advice!
Code & Coffee events are relaxed and informal, and are intended as a way for our community to work and play together while providing each other with ongoing support and feedback.
