Philly Give Camp 4

This is an outside event we're promoting and while it is not affiliated with Girl Develop It, we recommend it as a learning and giving back opportunity.

The Philly GiveCamp, is a 48-hour charity hackathon where software developers, designers, and database administrators donate their time to create custom software for non-profit organizations. They are happy to announce their 4th GiveCamp event, which will take place during MLK weekend in January 2014. They helped 22 nonprofits with technology solutions at the last event and they are looking for software developers, designers, and social media specialists who are interested in volunteering their time to do it again.

If you're able to donate your time and skills, please register via their website. If you aren’t able to make it this year, please feel free to forward to friends, colleagues and other potential volunteers.

Hi. I am not registered as a nonprofit, although I am a small community-focused social justice business who employs others, and offers workshops to community members for free. My question: is it possible for me to register as one of the nonprofits for whom designers, etc. are donating their time? I need help with designing a website, and with editing video. Thanks.

Unfortunately, the Philly GiveCamp has 23 nonprofits they're helping, and can't accommodate any more... However, maybe you can get on their list for next year. Scope out their site, phillygivecamp.org, to learn more about registering your organization as a nonprofit. Also, GiveCamp is a national initiative, so you can sign your nonprofit up to participate in other local GiveCamps. For EX, I'm part of the Baltimore GiveCamp, and our event will be in Oct/Nov this year. Other GiveCamps can be found via givecamp.org.

Do you have any deals with hotels surrounding the area? Just curious, coming from Lancaster. Thanks!

Yes!! If you call the Desmond hotel in Malvern, you can get a discounted room at $64. Just mentioned that you're with the givecamp event.

Also, the event could use another 20-30 volunteers since there are 23 nonprofits, so if you know anyone else who enjoys charity hackathons / "coding for a cause," please direct them to the www.phillygivecamp.org site to scope it out & register!

So excited for the @phillygivecamp in 2 weekends! The event is slated to help about 23 nonprofits with their website & database needs! If you haven't officially registered as a volunteer via the www.phillygivecamp.org site, it'd be helpful if you could do that (so organizers can match you with the best charity/project).
