I'm pumped to announce the first ever women's startup incubator is coming, and to Philly of all places! It's run by GDI member Archna Sahay (you may remember her from our Women & Wealth Q&A). More info is below.
Women are founding businesses at 1.5x the national average yet receive less than 10% of the funding. Not only that, they deliver 12% more revenue using a third less capital than their male counterparts.
You may wonder, what innovative solutions to problems are we missing out on because not enough women are getting funded or being properly supported as they launch their ventures?
How do we bridge the gap and help female founders get in front of mentors, advisors and funding?
DreamIt Ventures is working on a solution. Archna recently joined DreamIt Ventures (dreamitventures.com) in Philadelphia to manage their newly launched Athena accelerator program for women founders.
DreamIt Athena is DreamIt Ventures' accelerator track focused on providing female startup founders hands-on support to hone their ideas, develop strategies, and turn their ideas into scalable, fundable companies. This is the first program run by a top-tier accelerator that focuses specifically on providing women the resources needed to build their companies.
Applications are due by December 8th, 2014 and the program will start in the Spring of 2015.
