Intro to HTML/CSS (Self-paced)

  • This location is shown only to members

Want to learn how to build your own website? Already have your own Tumblr/Wordpress/etc site, but want to have more control over it? Interested in learning to program but want to start small? This one-day workshop is for you!

This course will be a bit of a new, experimental format. We'll start off with traditional live lecture, but then once you get started, you'll watch videos that I've pre-recorded about each topic. That means you'll get to skip through or speed through parts you already know, spend more time on things you don't, and do the exercises at your own pace. Just like in our usual classes, we'll be there to help you when you have questions. Since this is the first time we're trying this format, we're lowering the price on this workshop.

We'll take a break at 12:30 for catered lunch, as well as socializing breaks every hour or so.

If you're interested in helping out as a teaching assistant, please let us know. If you recently took the HTML/CSS class, TAing can be a great test of your skills! It can also be a great way to meet other people in our community.

Please bring a laptop and headphones to the class. If you don't have those available, let us know.

Many thanks to our sponsor HackReactor for the wonderful space. HackReactor is a 12-week intensive programming academy.

If you'd like to attend but cannot afford the cost, please request a GDI scholarship.

Please note that we cannot issue refunds, since there's an overhead to issuing refunds via Meetup.com and we already offer the workshops at such a low-cost. We put proceeds into the chapter fund, which we use as our scholarship fund.

My daughter liked it and was a bit tired at 5pm. I hope she finds the time for some refreshing.

Reminder: please bring headphones, a laptop, and a charger. I'll have a few extra headphones but it will help if most people have their own. See you soon!

Missy, with the strike, I'll have to drive in. I live in Emeryville. If you can meet me somewhere towards me, I can give you a lift. Not sure about where to park, so if you want to split the cost of parking in a parking garage, I'll cover the bridge toll and the gas. Email me at [masked] if you're interested. -Racheljoy

Anyone interested in carpooling from the east bay, given the strike? I don't have a car, and live near the el cerrito del norte bart station, but can take the bus or get a ride to a convenient location to meet up so we can take the carpool lane!

Reminder: there are a few workshops that are good follow-ups to this workshop: CSS3 on Thursday, and JS next weekend. We still have spots for all of those, so you can wait until the end of tomorrow to decide if you want to hit them up. Full list of workshops is on http://www.meetup.com/Girl-Develop-It-San-Francisco/

Hi, Can someone please clarify if my chromebook will be able to handle the class (wifi only, web based w/ google docs/apps/gmail/etc), or if I need to lug my heavy dell laptop? Thanks so much!

    • Pamela

@Missy - Yes, a ChromeBook will be fine!
