This is Parts 3 + 4 of the HTML/CSS Workshop Series for Build-Your-Own-Webpage package. It is highly recommended that you start the series by signing up for Parts 1 + 2 (Intro to HTML and CSS)!

In this two-day project-based workshop, you'll learn how to go beyond with HTML and CSS: using the popular CSS Framework Bootstrap for responsive design and pre-built components, and getting your website to go live.

The comprehensive workshop will be a mix of lectures, pair programming, and hands-on exercises building your webpage, and will be taught by Mary Ann Jawili, Software Engineer at Salesforce, and Truc Nguyen, UX Designer at AdRoll.

By the end of this two-day workshop, you will know the following:

• How to make a responsive web page using a framework like Bootstrap (e.g making your web page look great on phones, tablets, and desktop computers)

• How to host it on Github Pages so everyone can check out your new website!

We will go from 10:00am to 5:00pm on both Saturday and Sunday. Lunch will be provided.

Prerequisites: Attendees are expected to have completed the take-home assignment from HTML/CSS Parts 1 & 2.

Tech requirements: Your laptop (Mac, PC, or Linux are all okay. If you don't have one of those, please let us know in advance) and charger.A modern web browser - either Chrome or Firefox.A text editor. We recommend Sublime Text 2 (free; available for both Mac and PC) or Notepad++ (PC).

Study Group: There is a Study Group session on Thursday, June 9 6pm-8pm where you will get personalized help from our wonderful TAs. They can give you feedback, answer your questions pertaining to your webpage, and review your code. You can also get a review on what was covered in HTML/CSS Workshop Part 1 + 2.

Payment is required to attend. If you'd like to attend but cannot afford the cost, request a scholarship. Due to the amount of applications, only the scholarship recipient will receive an email a few days before the workshop. Thank you for your understanding!

Hi Charlene, nice to meet you and welcome! If you have familiarity with HTML & CSS you can take par 3+4 without taking 1+2. Message me if you're interested in chatting about prerequisites. We'll be offering this workshop series again in the fall too!

Thanks Truc, I don't think I'm that advanced yet, I'll wait for you to offer the series again in the fall.

Don't forget our free study group this Thursday, June 9, 6-8pm at DevBootcamp! This is a great opportunity to get more 1-on-1 guidance and learn new tricks of the trade. I'll be there along with our awesome teacher Jessica (who co-taught the first workshop) and Karla, one of our star TAs. We'll be here to answer any questions about the previous workshop or prerequisites for Part 3+4 if you weren't able to attend last week. We'll be also giving quick lightning talks on Google fonts, media queries, and image formats, and we'll be happy to help you with your site-in-progress.

Hello, do you need to attend the HTML / CSS to join this course? Or just do the homework for the HTML / CSS session?

    • Truc N.

Hi Clara, You don't need to attend HTML / CSS Part 1 if you are already familiar with the concepts. However, this workshop builds on top of the first one conceptually and project wise.
The prerequisite for this course is a website built with at least 2 pages, including:
      - nav bar & footer
      - images
      - <a> tag
      - ordered list / unordered list
      - STRETCH: 2 different styling approaches
