On the evening of May 13, Girl Geeks Toronto is going where our group has never gone before. Join us and other girl geeks (and boys!) at Extreme Startups for a night of space exploration.

The Apollo Moon landings inspired a generation to dream of space in ways that had never been dreamed before. Since then, several new generations have been born and grown up but humanity's reach into space has not moved beyond low Earth orbit. Today’s entrepreneurs, dreamers and mavericks are poised to take matters into their own hands.

Emerging technology entrepreneur, Talmon Firestone, will join us to discuss the growth of the “New Space” movement as well as how his career has been aligned with the goals of all of those working towards helping humanity meaningfully reach for the stars.

Natalie Panek, robotic operator and aerospace engineer at MDA Space Missions will also be joining us to talk about how she’s skyrocketed into her career. From interning at NASA’s Goddard Spaceflight Center, to her current position at the company behind the Canadarm, Natalie will discuss some of the innovative projects and unique experiences she had in her career and what’s in store next.

When you leave the event, you’ll look at the night sky in a whole new light.

May we present our esteemed speakers:

Talmon Firestone is an emerging technology entrepreneur. He completed a B. Commerce from Ryerson University and an MSc from the International Space University. The last 8 years have seen Talmon manage the business side of Germany based NSD-Fusion GmbH where a unique type of nuclear fusion technology has been commercialized to be used in various industrial and research sectors as a high energy neutron generator. In 2010, he began the process of opening a nuclear test services and research laboratory, RE-Labs Inc. in collaboration with the University of Ontario Institute of Technology. Beyond offering radiation effect test services, RE-Labs will also conduct further nuclear based R&D to spin out various future ventures. Over the years, Talmon has been a guest speaker an CBC and CTV news during coverage of current events within the space industry. He has been a practitioner of the martial arts for almost two decades and has been selected to represent Canada at the 2013 Maccabiah Games, the third largest Olympic type event in the world, in the sport of Taekwondo this summer in Israel.
