help to serve lunch at The Neighborhood Center

The Neighborhood Center is a community center in Camden, NJ that offers a number of programs, both during the week and weekends. Programs include child care, after school programs, summer programs, community kitchen and garden.

Today we will be helping to serve lunch in the kitchen, Lunch is served buffet style, volunteers help to prepare the food, set tables and buffet line, and bus/clean tables.

Closed-toe shoes are a must for all. If handling food, you will need to wear a hair net and gloves (provided).

If there isn't enough work in the kitchen for all, there are always odd projects to help with (cleaning, painting, light repairs). But there should be enough room in the kitchen.

Please arrive a few minutes early, we'll get started at 10am. We will end by 2pm. All volunteers are invited to eat lunch at 12pm in the community kitchen, along with other community members. NOTE: this is not a "soup kitchen" ... it is a community kitchen, open to all.

The Center has a gated parking lot. It is also accessible by public transportation ... from PATCO, get off at the Broadway stop. Then take a bus to Broadway and Kaighn. From there, it is a 4 block walk (on Kaighn) to the Center. OK to walk during the day, but not at night.

Running late. I'll be there as soon as I can.

Most volunteers will be helping with food prep and serving lunch. If not enough room for everyone in the kitchen, some might help to sort clothing donations (distributed at lunch). If some want to be outside instead, there might be seed planting that needs to be done. But the main project is lunch prep/serving.
