  • Beginner’s day

Lets meet up and learn how to take great pictures.

Would you like to get to know your camera and how to use it?

Then the Beginners Day is for you.

Over the course of the afternoon you can expect to gain a better understanding of how your camera works, and experiment with controls such as aperture, shutter speed and ISO. We will also take a look at composition. The aim of the day is to come away with an improved understanding of your camera workings, and the ability to take better pictures.

This initial workshop will have a 3:1 student tutor ratio, so lots of individual attention. Get your questions ready!

Do bring along your camera manual (you can now download most to your phone) and familiarise yourself as much as you can with your camera menus. But most of all bring yourself!

Meet at the cafe just inside the Gallery. We can have a short coffee break mid session.

This will be a really good day.

I am from Ayrshire and I was talking to the man who runs Dundonald Castle in Ayrshire for Historic Scotland. I was asking when it will be illuminated over the festive period and he advised me it would not be - but if a group of photographers wanted to come and photograph it by day at another time they will lay on morning and afternoon coffee and provide a soup and sandwich lunch for £25 a head. If the group want to photograph it while illuminated at night he can arrange that. I thought this might be of interest to you.

Can't make it on 11th as I am in Norfolk.

Hi, I'm fairly new to photography. Have read the theory but need practical experience.
