What we're about

We are world travelers who are passionate about cultural exchange, authentic and responsible travel, global adventure, life-changing experiences, unforgettable personal stories, slow travel, green travel and savvy travel on a budget. If you're as addicted to world travel as we are, or are interested in embarking on the life-long adventure towards fulfillment that we embrace as essential to our existence, you'll enjoy this group.

Join us for one of our many upcoming events, hook up with other members to plan a trip, or just relax on a social outing and share travel tips and stories with fellow adventurers. We have a monthly free Global Travel Social where travelers just come out and chat sharing stories and inspiration. We have a monthly free Talk Travel Meetup which has a travel theme. There are also Special Presentations on travel that may be free or may have a cost depending on venue. Plus, there are Travel Classes that, as the name implies are actual classes on how-to travel (tuition varies based on venue & length of class.)

This group is sponsored by Wild Spirit Travel and by Servas an International, non-profit, travel group. It promotes world peace through travel. When traveling, Servas members can be home hosted around the world. This enables Servas members to make global friends and garner a true understanding of diverse societies.

If you are in the travel industry feel free to come to our meetups, but please no sales or pushing of tours either at meetups or in posts to this group. Instead, come meet the organizers and become a regular member. Once, active, you may be able to do a presentation. This group is about meeting up and learning about travel from each other. If you are not in the area, this is probably not the group for you. Thanks.

Photos taken at meetups/classes/event may be used by Shyla & Dan Bare, meetup organizers, or the sponsors, Wild Spirit Travel and Servas, in social media, websites, or print. They may promote future meetups, travel talks/classes, or general Wild Spirit Travel / Servas activities. By attending an event listed in this group you give consent to be in photos. Any photo uploaded to the group by a member must be their own work and one they have the right to share. Once uploaded to this meetup group, the organziers/sponsors may use.

Join fellow world travelers at the June Global Travel Social. Come share travel stories, ask questions about your next destination, or simply enjoy a drink with global minded people. All travelers or travel dreamers are welcome at our monthly gathering. This month we will be at the Lucky Lab in Northwest Portland. Depending on weather we will be outside on their patio or indoors. To find us look for the meetup signs. When you arrive, be sure to check in with the meetup host - they will be the one with the clipboard. If you sign-up to attend please do. But if your plans change and you can't make it, do switch your RSVP on meetup.com. We need to know how many seats to save. It is free to attend, however, attendees are asked to donate $2 - $3 to cover meetup costs. Also, please support the venue by ordering food and/or drink. The start time for this Global Travel Social is flexible - turn up when you can and leave when you want. New to this group? Don't worry - this is a welcoming and friendly group of travelers. Some members have been around the world, others are preparing to get the first stamp in their passport. Talk Travel

Once a month we have a "Talk Travel" meetup. For this a travel destination, group or theme is selected. Past talk travels topics have been: Scandinavia, Top Destinations Around the World, the Philippines, Study-Work-Retire abroad, Pole to Pole, Travel Apps, Canada, Beers Around-the-World, India, Jordan, Portugal, Holidays Around the World, South Africa / Namibia, Vietnam, Best Beaches, Costa Rica, Finding Home-Stays Abroad, Kenya, Walking the Camino, Servas International Travel Club, Peru, Oktoberfest, Indonesia, New Zealand, South of the Border, Japan, Ireland, China, Australia, and more. Sometimes we have a speaker, sometimes a panel, and other times it is just a facilitated discussion among attendees. Have a suggestion for a future theme? Come to one of the meetups and tell us your idea. Talk Travels are free, however, all attendees are asked to donate $3 - $5 to cover meetup costs and buy the speakers a drink. Also, please plan to buy food and/or drink to support the venue. We often use free private rooms, so it is important to spend something at the venue. Talk Travels are often super popular and get wait-lists. So no showing is tough on other travelers, the speakers, and the venue. Please be considerate and honor your RSVP. We do rotate venues going from East Portland to Beaverton and Lake Oswego to Vancouver. Photos taken at the event may be used by Shyla & Dan Bare, or Wild Spirit Travel, in social media, websites, or print. They may promote future meetups, travel talks/classes, or general Wild Spirit Travel activities. By attending the event, you give consent to be in photos.
