MP Focus Webinar - David Burrowes

  • Mar 19, 2014 · 10:00 AM
  • Online Meeting

GlobalNet21 is planning to hold regular monthly webinars with decision makers - MPs, MEPs, and we hope Assemblymen and women, congressmen and senators from different countries. The topic of these webinars will be the state of democracy globally and what we need to do to recreate democracy to make it work for us all.

David Burrowes MP has agreed to take part in our third MP Focus webinar where he will be interviewed on the state of democracy in the UK and how it needs to change to reflect both local and global demands.

In this webinar David will focus on Human Rights and Justice. Are human rights closely associated with democratic societies and is it in those societies justice is more fairly administered. Or is this a fiction that we sometimes want to believe – that our state because it is democratic is thus more benign?  Can states judge each other on human rights issues or is this best left to civil society globally?

Those attending the webinar will be able to ask questions by text and even start a debate by text.

We hope that these webinars will become a regular feature where we engage politicians of many countries about what democracy means in the 21st century and how politicians can connect with people and communities in a more effective way.

Although membership of our site is free we do expect all those who attend our events to pay an annual subscription that covers attendance not just one meeting but also to the vast majority of our meetups and webinars for any one year. Delighted David Burrowes was willing to engage and listened. His comments about easy access to MP's via the central lobby were a revelation! I would have liked a bit more time to develop ideas for future action, and perhaps a broader focus on democracy (not mainly about human rights, important though these are.)

The people have ideas and experiences that could help politicians and civil servants do their work. How can we build bridges so this is easier?
