  • Cleeve Hill 5 miles

    Cleeve Hill Common car park

Meet at the pylons on Cleeve Hill for a circular walk around the top, all offroad and without stiles. There will be some sheep, cows and golfers! It’s about 5 miles so should take around 2.5 hours once we set off. One or two short climbs. The pylons are on the south side of the common (not the golf club or Rising Sun pub side), up Aggs Hill and left at the scorched tree, then all the way to the end. ** Unfortunately we are back to 6 walkers so please only come if you're on the "going" list, make sure your guest is included, and cancel if you can't come so that someone else can. • Pittville Park 1 hour walk

    Albemarle Gate

I’m going to try a staggered start in 2 groups, so once 6 people have arrived they will set off with Neil, then the rest 10 minutes later. This is a short walk around Pittville Park, there are a couple of bits near the road but should be mostly offlead depending on your dog, although they do need to stay out of the water and away from the swans and ducks (there is a separate bit where the dogs can jump in the river). Meet at the car park off Albemarle Gate and we’ll walk around the lakes and past the pump rooms. I think they’re serving drinks outside at the pump rooms so will make this near the end of the walk as an option. ** Unfortunately we are back to 6 walkers so please only come if you're on the "going" list, make sure your guest is included, and cancel if you can't come so that someone else can. Thanks. ** We ask for a voluntary donation of 50p per walk towards the Meetup subscription (unused money goes to a kitty for group activities). • Woodchester Park walk & picnic (about 5 miles) - read desc

    Woodchester Mansion Trust

A few of us are camping at the nearby Thistledown campsite for the weekend, so this is for anyone to come for the day and walk around Woodchester Park and mansion for about 5 miles with a picnic. If you're already listed on the camping event, please don't RSVP here as I need to try to maintain the limit of 30 altogether. We'll meet outside Woodchester mansion by the outdoor tables at 10.30 so please allow an extra 15 minutes to walk down from the car park as campers will be coming in from the site directly (unfortunately day visitors aren't allowed to park onsite or use our special path!). Parking is paid (I think £3) unless you have an NT card. Then walk around 0.5 miles straight down the slope to meet the rest of us by the cafe. From the mansion we'll walk around 4 miles to circle the park through the woods and past the ponds, and stop for a picnic somewhere along the way (there's also a cafe with takeaway service in the mansion). Some are having lunch at the campsite cafe afterwards (probably after 1) which is open to day visitors too, we can’t book so will try our luck with the outside tables. It's a 2 minute drive from the Woodchester Park car park - Thistledown Farm, Tinkley Lane, Nympsfield, GL10 3UH. Obligatory Covid stuff... :) - Stay at least 2m apart, especially at gates and on narrow paths - Carry hand sanitiser and face covering just in case - Obviously don't come if you have any Covid-like symptoms - Don't share food/drink, walking sticks, etc - Avoid touching gates etc directly We’re a voluntary social group, contact Ben with any questions on[masked]

  • Camping near Stroud

    Thistledown Campsite

Camping is back at last! We'll be at Thistledown Farm in Nympsfield near Stroud. https://thistledown.org.uk/ Per night it’s £12 a pitch plus £8 per adult and £2 per dog. I've booked 5 pitches for me, Jan & Carlo, Toni, Val and Claire in the 3rd pasture for Friday and Saturday nights. They don't allow groups of more than 5 tents but this should be okay as we're booking separately and just meeting for walks. Friday check-in is 11-5, I'm aiming to arrive about 2pm and will probably go for a short walk into Woodchester Park, but arrive whenever you want. The plan is pizza onsite Friday night but I couldn’t book so hopefully we can get an outside table (if not we can swap to BBQ Friday and pizza on Saturday night as I’ve got a backup booking). Saturday we'll go for around 6 miles walk and picnic round Woodchester Park (if you want to join us for the day, look out for the other Meetup event). Leave at 10am so we can meet the others by the mansion. There is also the option of the campsite cafe for lunch after the walk. Saturday evening we can have a BBQ (or pizza at 7.45 if we couldn’t get it Friday). Sunday after we've packed up, we can head over to Minchinhampton Common for another walk, then the Black Horse in Amberley for lunch at 1pm.

  • Ogmore by Sea (long drive) day out inc 8 mile walk & pub

    The Watermill

Bit of an adventure over the border! A few of us are visiting Ogmore-by-Sea (near Bridgend) for the weekend so it's a bit of a long drive for the day. It's about 1.5 hours drive from Cheltenham. Meet at The Watermill, Ogmore Rd, Ogmore-by-Sea, Bridgend CF32 0QP (I moved the start point as beach parking is £6!) The planned walk is about 8 miles but if it's too hot for the dogs I will shorten the walk and maybe just mess about on the beach. We start inland across to St Brides Major and back down to the coast for Dunraven Castle & Walled Gardens, then along the coast/beach to Ogmore and back up the river to the pub. We’re booked Inside for 2pm and will need to leave some dogs in the cars, but hopefully we can grab a table outside when we get there. Obligatory Covid stuff... :) - Stay at least 2m apart, stay aware at gates and on narrow paths - Carry hand sanitiser and face covering just in case - Obviously don't come if you have any Covid-like symptoms - Don't share food/drink, walking sticks, etc - Avoid touching gates etc directly We ask for a voluntary donation of 50p per walk towards the Meetup subscription (unused money goes to a kitty for group activities).
