• Barbecue at Ben's!

    11 Bluebell Grove

Time for a barbecue I think! So I’ve fairly randomly given everyone a food idea below, let me know if you’d rather do something different and don’t do too much as there always seems to be too much at these things. I think easier if everyone brings their own drinks and don’t forget a camping chair in case it’s nice enough to sit outside (I’ve probably got enough inside). A few dogs should be okay but bear in mind I’ve got a small place and two cats, although they’re pretty tough. Salads: Soph Lesley Ben Crisps or other savoury snacks: Christopher D Sarah Penny & John Meat mains/burgers/sausages: Sam Michael J Annabel Neil Veggie/vegan mains: Jan & Carlo Paul Caron Buns: Chris F Tiggy Something sweet: Aileen (Rosie!) Val Toni (fruit salad) 11 Bluebell Grove, Up Hatherley, Cheltenham, GL51 3BJ. There's room for about 3 cars on my driveway, then road space along Bluebell Grove and Azalea Drive. Any issues give me a shout on[masked]

  • Gower camping/walking weekend

    Three Cliffs Bay Holiday Park

It's Gower time! I'm booked Friday 5th to Monday 8th July but feel free to come for fewer nights or even for the day. Traffic! It's Swansea Air Show and Oystermouth Road will be closed Friday, which is the usual route from the M4. To avoid this make sure you stay on M4 until junction 47 and come down through Gowerton instead. The plan is: Friday - arrive when you can, check in at the shop and tell them you're in the dog group so they put us together. Barbecue (I will rent a fire pit and picnic table) Saturday 10.30am from the shop. 3.5 miles inland walk to the King Arthur Hotel for an early lunch (as we can't book our tables). Then walk back via the beach, probably another barbecue in the evening. Sunday 10am from the shop. About 6 miles walk, down to the beach and over the cliff to Southgate ending at the Gower Inn for Sunday lunch, then about 1 mile walk back to the site. We're outside for both lunches and can't book ahead so fingers crossed for sun! Please book directly via the link below - choose a non-electric pitch so we can camp together, and mention Ben Jeffery, booking ref #55808 or the dog walking group in the notes (there are also options for glamping and dog-free cottages). https://threecliffsbay.com/book This is a stunning location with a beautiful dog-friendly beach a few minutes walk away, and lots of local walk and pub options. The campsite is very well equipped with individual bathrooms and a shop including fresh coffee and pretty much anything else you want to buy, but may be cheaper to stop at a supermarket on the way for barbecue food etc. The site has a strict policy of dogs on leads at all times which we need to follow, although there is a walking area nearby where you can let them off, and of course the beach! • Cheltenham racecourse walk from The Burgage (1.5 hour ish)

    Cheltenham Racecourse

-- Change of meeting spot! Now meet on The Burgage near the Royal Oak Inn in Prestbury (GL52 3DL) -- Short walk from Prestbury and around the edge of the racecourse (about 3 miles). Because of parking restrictions we need to meet near The Royal Oak and follow the footpath onto the racecourse. We'll then follow the circular footpath through the car park by the main entrance (briefly on leads), and then the back fields and along the stream to come back to Prestbury. Nice and flat! We ask for a voluntary donation of 50p per walk towards the Meetup subscription (unused money goes to a kitty for group activities).
