Founder of Food and Water First To Speak
Once citizens defeated the Mega Quarry that would have destroyed 2,300 acres
of prime Ontario foodlands, they didn’t pack up and go home. Instead, they founded Food and Water First, a movement dedicated to protecting Ontario’s Class 1 farmland and source water regions.
Donna Tranquada, a writer and former CBC radio journalist, is one of the founders of the group that brings rural and urban citizens together in an understanding that our province’s rare agricultural soils and water resources provide us with a great bounty that must be preserved.
Tranquada will be speaking in Oakville on Wednesday, November 6, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at Oakville’s Town Hall, 1225 Trafalgar Road, Committee Rooms 1 and 2. Everyone is invited to this free event sponsored by Oakvillegreen Conservation Association (www.oakvillegreen.org).
