Council Crest on Tuesday

Slow hill climbers are welcome on this ride.  We will be working on our climbing the only way we know how, by doing it.  This ride is structured to not intimidate the novice hill climber.  Since it is an out and back, you can turn around when you have had enough but we will be encouraging you to go all the way.  We will be regrouping along the way.

We will make our way up to the top of Council Crest and take a couple of laps around Fairmount before heading back down.

Time: Be ready to ride at 4:00PM sharp.  We honor those who arrange their schedule to be on time.

Route: Up and Back

RIDE LEADER CONTACT INFO: Jan[masked] [masked].  Please call or email with any questions.

Pace: Climbing at your own pace.

Distance: Approx. 19 miles

Hills: For sure, since we are working on climbing.

Attitude: Regrouping along the way.

Traffic: City streets with normal traffic and bike paths.

Weather Cancellation Policy: Brutal cold, soupy fog or sideways rain will cancel.  I will post a comment by Noon if the weather is bad enough to cancel.

Required: All items you need to change your tire if you get a flat, including a spare tube.  Please carry sufficient water and snacks for the ride.

Mandatory for all riders.

Obey traffic laws and remember you’re a representative of the greater cycling community and should conduct yourself that way on the road.  Please represent us well.

All riders must have their rides in good working order and must bring a flat kit & spare tube on all rides. If there is an issue with proper working or lack of equipment you may be asked to sit the ride out. Please ask for help if you are ill equipped prior to the ride. We will try to help!

All riders must be able to change a flat should they have one or have a way to get picked up (AAA, a friend…). There is often but not always someone on the ride who knows how to help you change your tire so plan accordingly.

LOVED this ride. Jan, thanks so much for organizing and leading it. A definite mainstay ride for me when I'm in town.

    Jan, Joan, Mark et all,
This was another fun ride to CC. Had not been on a bike ride for a week but my legs were well up to it. So I was happy to join all of our group.

Jan, how long is the route to get to Council Crest?

    June 16, 2013

    • Jan

Our total mileage is around 19 or 20 miles. Most of us ride to the top of Council Crest twice and circle Fairmount twice.

I will need to leave by 5, have been meaning to do this-- since it is an out and back is leaving by 5 possible?

    June 16, 2013

    • Jan

You can turn around anytime you like. If you need to be back to the start of the ride by 5, you probably won't make it to the top of Council Crest.

Very funny!!! It involves lots of heavy breathing and some brute strength. Perhaps being a little short on intelligence helps, too. Good luck with that!!! :)

Hey Sue, glad to see you joining in on this ride! Maybe you can teach me your secret technique on how to ride up hills in the big chainring. ;)
