Wheatland Ferry - Independence Loop - 63 Miles

This is a new route for me that I tested out a couple of weeks ago.  There is something for everyone, some hills, nice scenery, long rural roads, rollers, a bike path and a couple of small towns.  We will be returning to Salem on the Willamette Valley Scenic Bikeway.

Bring a dollar to pay for your passage on the Wheatland Ferry.

Our goal is to finish near the same time as Ross' shorter ride so we can join them for lunch.

Time: Be ready to ride at 8:00AM.  We honor those who arrange their schedule to be on time.

RIDE LEADER CONTACT INFO: Jan[masked] [masked]. Please call or email with any questions.

Pace: We will ride the flats at 16-17mph.  Climbing at your own pace with patient regroups at the top of all hills.

Distance: 62.5 miles

Hills: There are some rollers and genuine hills.  I will let you figure out which is which.

Attitude: We will be moving along at a good pace and take several short breaks as needed.

Traffic: A couple of short busy spots on rural highways so be comfortable riding single file in traffic.  The Willamette Scenic Bikeway does not have a shoulder on every road.

Cerveza after the ride:  Yes at The Ram two blocks away at[masked]th Street, Salem, OR

Weather Cancellation Policy: Summer time!!

Required: All items you need to change your tire if you get a flat, including a spare tube.  Please carry sufficient water and snacks for the ride.

Mandatory for all riders.

Obey traffic laws and remember you’re a representative of the greater cycling community and should conduct yourself that way on the road.  Please represent us well.

All riders must have their rides in good working order and must bring a flat kit & spare tube on all rides. If there is an issue with proper working or lack of equipment you may be asked to sit the ride out. Please ask for help if you are ill equipped prior to the ride. We will try to help!

All riders must be able to change a flat should they have one or have a way to get picked up (AAA, a friend…). There is often but not always someone on the ride who knows how to help you change your tire so plan accordingly.

Hmmm, I am pretty sure that was Amy I was watching a head of me on those hills!

Thanks for towing me up those hills, Jan. Despite what you say, I think you like those steep ones! It was a good day with a good group.

The perfect group to ride with. Fast ride with pace lines, head winds, steep hills and rollers. We worked well together and had a blast!!
