  • Having coffee and (hopefully) preparing to watch a beautiful blue sky desert sunrise
  • This is not a GTD ride.  It is promoted by CVSPIN and ride will be fully subject to the terms and conditions of the promoter.  Signing up here does NOT constitute signing up for the ride.

    Here's more information http://www.tourdepalmsprings.com/

There are 100, 50, 25 and 10 mile routes as well as walking routes.

    More details:

I've done this ride many times over the years. It's a great way to get out of the cold and rain and get some mileage in.  Of course, there's no guarantee of perfect weather.  We did the 25 mile route in 2012 because we had to turn back in the face of 55 mph desert winds.  My riding companion did not have glasses and also weighed in at about 145lb, so he was blown off the road several times while riding in a basically blinded state.  The 25 mile route was somewhat protected from the wind, but you can see how fast we were going with the tailwind.

The route has a bit of climbing, but it's generally the long desert type of climbs, 1% or so in the first 15 miles or so.  And there's only about 3100 feet for 100 miles, so it's essentially flat.

Here's an overall view of the ride:

There's been a small contingent of GTD riders there for the last 3 years.  If all or some of you are interested in renting a house for a few days, let me know and we'll try to work something out.

I hope to see you there one way or the other.  We had a great time last year
