Thanksgiving Day Calorie Burner (27 Miles)

Here's your chance to burn off a few of those extra calories on Thanksgiving Day. I've come up with a route that has a bit of everything. Some hills, some flats, some rollers all squeezed into a ride that should run just a bit over 2 hours. For the most part, I've chosen wide suburban streets with virtually no traffic on the holiday. After finishing, you will be able to have another slice of Aunt Esther's pie with a little less guilt.

Jan, our very observant Numbumz Organizer has told me that the Rock Creek Trail is temporarily closed. A slight modification of the route may be necessary, but won't make a overall huge impact.

I'll try and maintain at least a 15-16 MPH pace on the flats and chug up the hills the best we can. This is an intermediate level ride but very doable if you have spent any time on the bike recently and are not afraid of a few hills. This is a group ride, so don't worry, no one will be left behind.

I have purposely scheduled this ride early with the anticipation that we will have everything wrapped up by 11:00AM. No social activity is planned afterward so everyone can get home and celebrate the holiday with their friends, family, food, and football.

As far as the weather goes, Accuweather's extended forecast is calling for a high of 48 and Brilliant Sunshine for Thanksgiving. (No kidding) Having said that, be prepared for typical Oregon November weather. Showers and light rain will not cancel this ride, a constant downpour will. I will try and give as much notice as possible if it's too yucky to ride.

Distance: 27 miles

Hills: Be prepared for >5% Total Elevation gain/loss is approximately 1500 ft.

Fitness: Will stop to regroup, but no major rest stops are planned

Attitude: Social - Regroup at turns

Start Location: DMV Parking Lot, Cedar Hills Shopping Center, 10280 SW Park Way, Portland, OR

Rider Requirements: Helmets must be worn at all times while riding. This is a requirement and not a request. Always bring plenty of water, dress or gear for the weather conditions, snacks for energy, a flat repair kit, including a spare tube. A tool kit and small pump is good, but if you don’t have one there is usually someone on a group ride who does (but don’t count on it). Carry a credit card, cell phone and a little cash to buy refreshments. Obey traffic laws and remember you’re a representative of the greater cycling community and should conduct yourself that way on the road. Please represent us.

And most important, bring a Positive and Supportive attitude.
