What we’re about
Do you enjoy riding your bike with friends? So do we! We are located in one of the top bike friendly cities in the US, Portland, Oregon. Many of our rides start and finish in the core area of our great city.
Our dedicated and friendly ride leaders are passionate about riding and post rides according to their interest and training level. Each posted ride will have a detailed description of what to expect. Please read the description and if you have any questions, contact the ride leader. They are a friendly group and are always willing to answer your questions.
Our rides have size limits for safety reasons, which is very important to us. We have discovered the fun factor increases when we limit the size of the group to a manageable size.
The ride leaders volunteer their time and energy to plan and organize all the rides you will find posted here. We greatly appreciate each one of them and all they do for us.
We hope you join us on a ride and discover the fun of cycling with friends!

See all- It's Spring Field Trip - Beginner gravel ride. Lower Deschutes APRIL 23Deschutes River State Recreation Area Campground, Wasco, OR
Look. It's this simple. If Pierrette, Rob and Einar say this is a good ride,
then it's a good ride. Yes, it's a bit of a drive, but I'm tired of the rain and they don't call this part of Oregon The Dry Side without reason. Of course, there are also numerous wineries and breweries in the area and in Hood River, so subject to legal restrictions and the exercise of good judgment, you may choose to combine this ride with a stop at one or two of your favorite wineries after the ride. This ride has turned into a GTD favorite. The route is well known for its goat heads and occasional rock gardens, but it gets great reviews, especially in the Spring. I don't want to jinx us, but we've never had a flat on this ride. It's listed as a beginner/intermediate ride in the MTB Project site. You should carefully review this site to make sure the ride is within your capabilities. Also, I'd definitely bring at least two spare innertubes rather than one on this ride. I recommend a mountain bike, but a gravel bike with >32cm tires should also work just fine. Tubeless tires are the best.

NOTE: THERE ARE NO SERVICES WHATSOEVER ON THIS ROUTE. THIS MEANS YOU MUST BRING ALL OF THE WATER AND FOOD YOU MIGHT NEED TO COMPLETE THIS ROUTE.
• Attitude. An easy pace to enjoy what I hope will be a beautiful pre-spring day. No one will be left behind. We'll wait on the climbs and we'll wait for photo ops. Just to be clear, this is a gravel ride. The gravel is not as difficult as our Still Creek gravel ride, but it's rougher than our rides in Yamhill County and our gravel rides out of Hood River (but a lot flatter). If Matt Zaffino can do it, you can too.
• Weather cancellation The occasional shower is fine and even a steady rain may be OK, but we won't ride in heavy fog (we will be on some high traffic, narrow, rural roads) thunderstorms or hail. I'll communicate any changes of plans no later than 8pm the night before the ride. Also, as noted, this isn't one of the tough gravel routes.
Mandatory for all riders.
Obey traffic laws and remember you’re a representative of the greater cycling spam community and should conduct yourself that way on the road. Please represent us well.
All riders must have their rides in good working order and must bring a flat kit, spam, & spare tube on all rides. If there is an issue with proper working or lack of equipment you may be asked to sit the ride out. Please ask for help if you are ill equipped prior to the ride. We will try to help!
All riders must be able to change a flat should they have one or have a way to get picked up (AAA, a friend, spam-wagon…). There is often but not always someone on the ride who knows how to help you change your tire so plan accordingly.
Note: Your RSVP signifies that you agree to the following. Organizers, event hosts and other participants will not be held responsible for any individual at any event. Each rider rides at their own risk and is solely responsible for any damage to their equipment or themselves.
Final Note: RSVP’s cannot include a +1 or Guest. If you choose to bring a friend or family member, they themselves must sign up as a member of Go the Distance.
- First 2024 Summer Night Ride. Voo Doo Too!!!!!Voodoo Doughnut Too, Portland, OR
As always, the kickoff ride for the GTD Summer Night Ride Series, starts with the original, VooDoo Too Doughnuts. While the ride will be wonderful indeed, in anticipation of the delicious sweetness at the end you'll soon be saying "how far to the doughnuts?"
Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAL2UwB-Fa4 .
OK. Heads up! This is VooDoo Too on NE Davis St. off of NE Sandy Blvd., NOT the one downtown on SW 3rd, NOT the one in Eugene, OR, NOT the one in Denver, CO, NOT the one in Austin, TX, and NOT the one in Taipei, Taiwan.
We're out to enjoy a beautiful summer evening in Portland topped off by the iconoclastic bomb of sugar, fat and attitude known as the VooDoo doughnut. Yes, I know it's become awash in touristas, but we were there first. And we'll never give it up. Never.
Night Ride: Yes, it's a night ride. That's the point. So at a minimum you must have a legally sufficient front and rear light. Above and beyond that, please utilize front and rear lights and reflective clothing and/or accessories that will enable you to be seen and to see so you can ride safely on city streets in the dark.
Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/27798885 . A little over 17 miles and 500' of elevation change, which is pretty flat. The route is primarily close-in neighborhood streets with stretches along arterials with significant automobile and truck traffic. And it's at night. If you are not comfortable riding in these conditions you should skip this ride.
Attitude: It's all about the fun and all about the doughnuts. So don't bother posting on Strava unless there's a category for most doughnuts eaten. It's slow and social.
Ride Host: Ed Lanton. 971-258-6066; anquetil@yahoo.com
Weather Cancellation Policy: Since we're not paid to ride, we won't ride if the weather is going to be rainy or worse. I'll post go/no go no later than 6pm the night before the ride
Required Gear: HELMETS must be worn at all times while riding. This is a requirement and not a request. LIGHTS. (See above)
Recommended Gear: Always bring plenty of water, on for energy, a flat repair kit, including a spare tube. A tool kit and small pump is good, but if you don’t have one there is usually someone on a group ride who does. Please check to see if someone has what you might need if you don't and be prepared to ride a bus or call a cab. (Not that we'll leave you by the road broken down, because that's not us). Carry a credit card and a little cash to buy refreshments or buy that bus ticket....
