As we all may know, dealing with social anxiety is not fun. Social Anxiety Disorder is the third largest mental health disorder. This disorder can be very debilitating in many aspects of a person's life. This Meetup group, based out of the Bridgeport area, is for anyone who is currently dealing with SAD and/or Avoidant Personality Disorder and is looking for support and encouragement in dealing with it. This is a non-judgmental, safe sharing environment where you are free to join into the discussion or just take a seat back and listen. No one should ever feel pressured to speak, at all. During our meetings, we speak about how social anxiety has affected our lives, progress we have made, treatment that has worked, and what our goals are. We also have weekly online chat meetings to check in with others and offer support. This is a peer support group and can be utilized whenever you may need more support. Most importantly, this Meetup group is about letting go of old habits and forming new, positive ones....and meeting some awesome, new people along the way!
Note: Please be aware that this group is more than just being shy and wanting to meet new people. This is a group to help yourself and others learn new coping skills to deal with social anxiety, not so much generalized anxiety. Social anxiety is a diagnosed mental health disorder that can affect the person's daily life and social functioning. This group is not a therapy group and I do not have a mental health background; however, we do work on behavioral therapy activities to help decrease our anxiety.
