When did you first start programming in Python?

Do you get paid to program in Python?

Tell the group a little about how you're using Python, or why you want to learn it

In 1996, I wrote a web site in Python. It was so much better than Perl. Since then, Python has been my language of choice. As a C++ programmer, I've used Python for prototyping, test, test data etc. In test support and DBA, I've used Python to automate database migration, for regression tests, and even to generate COBOL programs. As SQE I've built analysis tools and automated extraction of data and statistical calculations. As husband of a scientist, I've built tools to inspect, clean and anonymize research data. I've written a tool for analysis and design of complex systems (e.g. for disposal of nuclear waste), web applications for data analytics, and a system to generate CRUD web services from specifications written in XML. Some of my code is at

I always liked to both build things and to tear things apart. I have to learn new things continually. Since my teens I've built both hardware and software. With age I've also taken an interest in how people work together to get things done.
