Gowanus Brooklyn Runners is a new running community serving parts of Brooklyn near to the Gowanus Canal (Park Slope, Carroll Gardens, Red Hook, Boerum Hill, Cobble Hill). We welcome runners of all levels looking for a unique balance of social activity and sport training.
The Gowanus section of Brooklyn, sandwiched between the hills of Prospect Park and the shorelines of Red Hook, is rapidly changing! So why not celebrate this transformation with a new running community dedicated to those in and around this awesome part of Brooklyn?!?!
Starting in June, we'll be hosting FREE WEDNESDAY EVENING RUN MEETUPS ALL SUMMER, catering to beginner and intermediate runners starting from (and ending at) "Pig Beach", located on Union Street just beside the Gowanus Canal.
New runners: come on out and meet some like-minded folks in a friendly, supportive environment.
Veteran runners: join us for some extra miles and share your knowledge, experience and positive encouragement with the community.
Next Step: Become a part of the community and join us on Wednesday evenings in Brooklyn!
After a few great Wednesday evenings, during which we had the chance to run with awesome Brooklynites like Libby, Rene, Renee, Shifra, Claire and Marta, we'll continue focusing on beginner and casual runners each and every Wednesday!
Gowanus Brooklyn Runners is kicking off a 10-WEEK BEGINNER RUNNER SUMMER SERIES! During this Wednesday evening series, we'll do our best to help you from the couch to a 10km (6.2 miles) race this fall!
WHERE WE MEET: Gowanus Brooklyn Runners Wednesday Evening Runs kick off from a couple of different locations in/near the Gowanus section of Brooklyn. This week we'll take off from the "Gowanus Yacht Club" (323 Smith Street), at the corner of Smith & President Street! This outdoor pub is super conveniently located on the same corner as the entrance to the Carroll Street station on the F and G subway lines.
WHEN WE MEET: We meet at 7pm and kick off the run at 7:10pm. After the run, leave some time to socialize and chat up with fellow runners. We usually hang out for about 45 minutes after the run finishes, so plan accordingly!
PLAN: This coming week we'll do about 2.5 to 3 miles through the quiet streets of Carroll Gardens/Cobble Hill and head towards Brooklyn Bridge Park!
PACE: Moderate conversational
COST: No fees! Just bring some funds to buy yourself a well-deserved, after-training food/drink.
WHO SHOULD PARTICIPATE?: Running Newbies and Veterans are all welcome!
FALL GOAL: For those interested in a 10k event this fall, we'll aim towards an awesome one known as "Grete's Great Gallop 10K" on October 5th (https://www.nyrr.org/races/nyrrgrete39sgreatgallop10k)! Of course, this goal is optional and totally up to the individual. Join us for the Wednesday runs whether or not you are interested in this 10k event.
Feel free to bring a friend, relative, partner, roommate, spouse, etc! See you on Wednesday evening!
