  • 4 days ago · 8:30 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

7:00 am start from the Carpool Location at Pier 1 Parking Lot, Northwest Corner of Shea and 101

8:30 hike start from the Trailhead.

Join hikers at La Barge Canyon and the Boulder Canyon #103 Trails in the Superstition Mts.  Boulder Canyon Trail begins on the northern side of the Superstition Mountain range at the Canyon Lake Trailhead. Parking for the trailhead is actually in the Canyon Lake Marina parking lot, the section closest to the road. The Marina is clearly marked from the road and is the first left after you have crossed the second one lane bridge. From the parking lot you cross the road to the trailhead.

From the trailhead we will begin the hike ascending at a moderate pace so we can turn around and enjoy the beautiful views of Canyon Lake. We will be rewarded throughout the hike with gorgeous views and scenery. Weavers Needle in the distance is a special treat.  This is sure to be a memorable hike.

Wear sturdy hiking shoes and bring snacks and plenty of water.  Hiking poles are recommended.

Rated – Difficult – the trail is rough and in some areas narrow with steep drop offs but the views are definitely worth it.  Recommended for experienced hikers only.

Distance – 5.5 to 6 miles

Trail type: Out and Back

Elevation Gain – approximately 1,200 ft

Facilities:  There are restrooms at the Canyon Lake Marina but not water.

Directions to the Trailhead:    From the corner of the 101 and Shea Blvd in Scottsdale, take the 101 south for 27 miles and then exit and take the 202 east.  Travel on the 202 for 13 miles and take Exit 26, Brown Road. Take Brown Road east for 4 miles and then continue on Lost Dutchman Blvd for another 3.4 miles.  Then take a left on AZ 88 E/ North Apache Trail for 13 miles to the trailhead.

Recovered from my fall that very day...which was a minor incident compared to enjoying a truly beautiful day. What an awesome hike Lesley and company. The views were spectacular and lunch after fun as usual:)

Sounds like you are going to the riverbed and not all the way to the box, correct? I live in the southeast valley, if anyone out this way wants to carpool let me know we'll get together.
