A new kind of reading club. No more feeling guilty that you couldn’t get through this month’s selection. We will be reading together one or more short stories from our favorite contemporary authors. We will share our thoughts and feelings about the story and then, for those who have aspirations to write stories, we will analyze the story to examine the craft the author used to write the story. We may even devise our own writing exercises similar to those found in Michael Noll’s book The Writer’s Field Guide to the Craft of Fiction (and on his website ReadtoWriteStories https://readtowritestories.com/ ). Meeting times, frequency, and locations to be determined.
What this group/club/meeting is not: It is not a writing critique group, though it could eventually involve some of that if there is some consensus to do so. It is also not a typical book club. There will be no commitment to read something prior to the meeting though some may wish to do so.
This group is open to all who love what short stories do. The primary genre will be restricted to literary fiction and primarily contemporary authors.
