Week Night Hike at Independence Grove in Libertyville, IL

Let's Hike Independence Grove!!

We have set our clocks forward and the days are longer...

The milder weather and longer days are finally here so let's get outdoors and enjoy it!! I have had a lot of requests for weeknights hikes that are less aggressive with shorter distances so I will be posting a few of these throughout the month on various week nights.

This will be a briskly paced hike with stops for rest if the group requires. Wear comfortable clothes and layers that can be added or removed because as we walk your body temperature will rise and it can cool off rapidly as the sun goes down. Wear a good walking/running shoe and bring an extra pair of socks to change into after walking as the trail may be wet in spots. This is a short hike and generally water is not necessary, but feel free to bring a bottle in case.

Hike Summary
Total Distance: 2.5 miles (with the option to add an additional 1 mile loop)
Total Hike Time: 60 minutes
Trail Map:

We will meet at the North Bay Pavilion parking lot at 5:45 and hit the trail by 6:00 sharp - so don't be late!! I will send my cell phone number to all hikers the afternoon of the hike to contact me in case there are any last minute issues.

So far, the park entrance has been unguarded so entrance has been free. I cannot guarantee this all summer and there may be a $5 park entrance fee if you are not a Lake County resident.

We hike in a clockwise direction so if you arrive late, you can high step it to catch up or hike in the opposite direction and meet us half way.
