Announcing a new Meetup for NW Burbs Camping and Adventure Meetup Group!

What: Week Night Hike at Independence Grove in Libertyville, IL

When: Thursday, June 10,[masked]:30 PM

Where:
Independence Grove Forest Preserve
16400 W Buckley Rd
Libertyville, IL 60048
[masked]

Let's Hike Independence Grove!!

The days are longer and the sun will be shining so let's get outdoors and enjoy it. I have had a lot of requests for "beginner" hikes that are less agressive with shorter distances so I will be posting a few of these monthly on week nights around Lake County and some into Cook County as the days lengthen.

This will be a gentle hike with an easy pace and a manageable total distance for even the beginning hiker. Wear comfortable clothes and layers that can be added or removed because as we walk your body temperature will rise, but the air temperature will drop at this time of day. Wear a good walking/running shoe and bring an extra pair of socks to change into after walking as the trail may be wet in spots. Plan to bring along a water bottle and if you have not eaten since lunch, a granola bar or small bag of trail mix is a good idea. With this distance and pace, I don't expect we will need to take breaks, but I will be guided by the group.

Hike Summary
Total Distance: 2.5 miles (if you want a more aggressive hike, we can send a group out to hike faster and potentially add an additional 1 mile loop)
Total Hike Time: 60 minutes
Trail Map: http://www.lcfpd.org/...

There is a $5 parking fee for non-Lake County residents, but it is FREE if you live in Lake County. We will meet at the North Bay Pavilion parking lot at 5:30 and hit the trail by 5:45 sharp - so don't be late!! I will send my cell phone number to all hikers the afternoon of the hike to contact me in case there are any last minute issues.

A few members have been meeting earlier around 4:15 to do some fishing near the parking lot. Feel free to post if you are interested. So far, the park entrance has been unguarded so entrance has been free. I cannot guarantee this. If you post that you would like to meet at the nearby Walgreens parking lot and share the ride in, we can carpool non-residents with residents for free entry if they do start charging.

For anyone interested, we will be heading to Tacos el Norte on Milwaukee Avenue in Vernon Hills for dinner afterward!! Please indicate in your RSVP if you will be joining us for dinner.
