End the Year with Kephart Prong and out Smokemont Loop (Difficult)

  • We will meet at the back of the Smokemont Campground at the Smokemont Loop trailhead. We will leave most of our vehicles there and shuttle to the Kephart Prong trailhead.

    We will start at Kephart Prong trailhead and hike up past the Kephart Prong Shelter to Grassy Branch.   At the intersection Dry Sluice Gap trail we will head down Dry Sluice Gap trail to the Cabins Flats Trail. After hiking the short Cabins Flats Trail we will hike out Smokemont Loop Trail to the campground in Smokemont.  

    We will have hiked about 15 miles    You will need to be prepared for the  weather.

    Smokemont campground is one of the nice campgrounds to stay at in the Smokies. You can campout and get several of the trails out of the way in the Smokemont area.
