Bandy Loop, Onedia, TN
There are several options for hiking in BSF. Honey Creek is a great trail, Maude's Crack is another great trail, along with a couple trails in the Burnt Mill area and some at the Leatherford area. There are a lot of arches in BSF. We will visit some within the park on this hike. You will probably have several choices for hikes in this area.
This is Needle Arch.
Have you ever explored Slave Falls, Needle Arch, and Charit Creek Lodge, and Twin Arches? This is the perfect weekend to do that. We will meet at the Bandy Camp Visitors Center so we can carpool to the trailhead.
We will do this hike as a loop this year which will allow us to see some other features of Big South Fork. Plans are to do this as a loop, but that could change on the day of the event.
We will hike from Charit Creek Trail to Slave Falls and Needle Arch returning to finish a loop passing Jakes Place and Twin Arches. After visiting the Twin Arches we will head to Charit Creek Lodge. Depending on the time we will plan to eat lunch at Chariot Lodge.
We will get to see the famous Slave Falls which is best seen before summer. The Needle Arch will allow you a chance to see an interesting Arch shape that will be different than most of the other arches in BSF.
Part of the Twin Arches.
Total distance for the day will be about 11 miles. It will be a moderate hike based on distance. You will have enough time after this hike to grab a hot shower, regroup, socialize, and watch the stars in the big field at Bandy Creek.
BRING BUG SPRAY..... the bugs will be out..... Ticks can be an issue at BSF.
Items to bring: Water, snacks, lunch, hiking poles, camera, great attitude. You may not need your hiking poles on this hike, but you can bring them if you prefer.
DOGS are allowed but must remain on leash...... 6' foot leash....... NO EXCEPTIONS.... this is a park where there are a lot of horses. Horses and their riders are King and we must follow park rules.
