First Aid 101 - What to Put in a First Aid Kit & Basic Lifesaving Tips

  • Feb 28, 2010 · 3:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Camille Hoffman (a healthcare professional) and her sister (an ER nurse) are going to teach us some basic First Aid skills. Below is her description of the class:

From 3-6pm.

We will discuss basic first aid skills for the wilderness as well as interventions to buy time getting to the nearest emergency department. We will also review some of the most common injuries and simple things that you can do to improve outcomes. We will try and emphasize several simple lifesaving maneuvers. Will put out a list of basic supplies that people can purchase for their first aid kits. We will demonstrate bandaging with a real bandage and then with something that could be substituted from around the house.

The .99 cents charge is just to improve the ratio of people who RSVP to those who actually show up. It's not much, but hopefully the idea that they "paid for it" will everyone more motivation. We usually have 50% show-up rate. Let's see if we can get closer to 75%. ;-)

Great work and information Camille, and you were an outstanding subject, Derec. Info that we should have ingrained and handy.

Glad you all made it out for this. Drop us a line if you have questions and sorry we had to keep referring to Everett getting his arm cut off with a chainsaw!

Thank you for sharing your knowledge Camille! It was a great meetup and I learned a few things that just might save a life someday. Let's hope I never have to use them!

This meetup was very useful and a lot of fun. Camille was wonderful at sharing her knowledge and Derec was a great "body"! I learned several things that have changed over the years, and got a much-needed refresher course. We enjoyed seeing the chickens, bees and bunnies as well.
