Learn how to Harvest Greywater from the Laundry Simply and Inexpensively

  • Sep 21, 2013 · 10:00 AM
  • a private residence

THIS EVENT IS FULL AS OF SEPTEMBER 2, SORRY, WE CANNOT ACCOMMODATE ANY MORE PEOPLE THAN HAVE ALREADY MADE THEIR RSVP.  THANKS FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING.

Judith Moran will give a tour of her “laundry drum” set-up for moving greywater from the laundry machine via a window to the backyard. This is the easiest and least expensive laundry to landscape system– it can be installed for less than $100 or for nearly free if already owned or salvaged materials are used. This is a good system for renters since it can be installed with little or no permanent modification to the house or yard. Judith will also speak about the system’s challenges.

We will discuss best management practices for using greywater as well as what detergents to use. Bring a small jar with lid if you’d like a sample of biocompatible laundry soap to take home with you.

Registration is limited to 6 participants (that’s how many will fit in Judith’s kitchen). Suggested donation is $10-$15.

Judith will e-mail participants her address privately after registration.

Judith apprenticed at the University of California Santa Cruz’s Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems, worked as a farmer and gardener growing food for restaurants, tends bees in neighbors’ backyards and is certified in Permaculture Design. Her favorite quote right now is by Barbara Kingsolver: “Whatever lofty things you might accomplish today, you did them only because you first ate something that grew out of dirt” and Judith would add, that grew with water.

    Hello Homesteaders,
I'm hosting another greywater meetup this next Saturday October 12th at 10 am - the location is on Wynspire Way, Highlands Ranch. Anyone who couldn't make the Sept 21st meetup is very welcome on the 12th by RSVPing with Meetup. It will probably be the last greywater meetup I host until the Spring.

    all the best,
    Judith

This was a very practical and thorough explanation of the new legality of grey water use in the home. Thank you Judith.

Judith did a fantastic job of communicating the information. She used handouts, a Power Point presentation, and some hands-on demonstrations to show us how she set up a greywater system at her house. She recommended a very useful web site, as well as showed us some books from experts in the fields. If she runs this Meetup again, anyone interested in greywater collection should attend.

Everyone who signed up for the Greywater Class should have received by email my address on Wynspire Way. If you didn't receive it or you get lost, give me a call at[masked]-9372. - Judith

I have events at people's homes frequently on Meetup. I never post an address of a home. I do not send the address via email until the night before the event. Your RSVPs will change a lot this week. Why send it out too soon? Of course if you want to send it twice, or three times, it's your gig.

Hi Debby, Sorry the link didn't work, google maps spells Grigs with only one g and an apostrophe. If you enter in Grig's Road and McArthur Ranch Road, Highlands Ranch, CO 80130 into googlemaps you should see my general neighborhood. Sorry for any confusion.

I'm interested as well in a future workshop. No window in my current home's laundry room, but now I'll know what to look for in a future home. Thank you much for passing your learning on!
