Brew Your Own Kombucha with Rowdy Mermaid Kombucha

This workshop is for any kombucha lover who wishes to make their own home brew and learn more about this ancient elixir. In this 2 hour, hands-on session, you will learn the precise steps of how to make the initial, pre-fermented kombucha by making a half gallon batch to take home with you.

You will learn what to expect during the fermentation process, the science behind the process and how to know when the finished kombucha is ready for bottling. Finally we will all take turns bottling a finished batch while learning fun ideas for flavoring.

Instructor Danielle Martin has been brewing kombucha professionally and recreationally for the past 8 years. She decided to try home brewing when her kombucha habit reached an expensive two bottles a day. After only two years of experimenting at home, Danielle was hired on by a local tea company in Portland, OR to become their first Master Brewer. After two years of hard work and creation, her kombucha was selling all throughout Oregon and Washington State, making Brew Dr. Kombucha the top selling kombucha in the Northwest. Danielle eventually went on to study Ayurveda and Eastern Herbalism. She now owns her own Ayurvedic apothecary line and clinic, right here in Boulder, CO. Along with her holistic healing career, she is currently the Master Brewer for Rowdy Mermaid Kombucha, where she is able to combine her knowledge of both kombucha and herbs to create delicious, healing elixirs for everyone.

    Hi Elizabeth,
Thanks for turning me on to the class. It's funny - I'll be in Portland that weekend. Yes, I've ordered from etsy in the past. I just know in Portland, I used to get the grains from farmers. But I'll look on line.

Hi Danielle - do you happen to know of anyone who has water keifer grains. I use it to make coconut keifer sodas in the warm weather.

Hi Jeanne, I don't think Danielle is on Meetup, but I wanted to let you know that it is possible to purchase water keifer grains pretty easily online (I've done it before). We are also offering a Make Your Own Kefir workshop in June and all participants will leave with water keifer grains...if you're interested, that workshop is here: http://www.livingarts...
