Educational Potluck #20 - AQUAPONICS - Something Fishy Going On Here

Our next Educational Potluck will be September 12th at 6:00 PM at Waste Farmers wastefarmers.com (at Timberline Gardens 11700 W 58th Ave Arvada CO) J.D. Sawyer http://www.coloradoaquaponics.com/ will share his extensive knowledge of a food growing system that combines both Aquaculture (i.e. fish farming) & Hydroponics (growing plants in nutrient rich water) into a system called Aquaponics. The marriage of these two provides an environmentally healthier method which eliminates toxic wastes associated with fish farming & doesn't require the constant addition of chemical nutrients or system flushing that are part of the hydroponics method. Aquaponics can be considered a form of biomimicry that mimics a natural ecosystem combining the outputs of two farming methods into an integrated & balanced network. Cool! Come join the adventure inherent in connecting with others & learning. And yes, YOU can do this at home! These potlucks are cost & waste free, so please bring your own plate, utensils, cup, etc. Please bring food to share. This knowledge is a gift from one member of our amazing community to YOU. Please pass it on, whenever you get a chance, to others. That is the rEvolution!!
Michael :-}
P.S. P.S. YOU are always welcome to wander through both the exiting array of plants at Timberline Gardens & see the Waste Farmers gardens so lovingly cared for by Farmer Emily (a shining soul).

    Will be bringing my 2 yr old. He's generally well behaved but if there is an issue I'll politely step out to not disturb the class. Also, hubby is a "maybe" coming or arriving late.

      They would like to know if goldfish (which they already have) can be used in an aquaponics system.

      I don't think one could grow much with goldfish, since they are so small & hence produce little waste, which is the fertilizer for the plants. If there are quite a few of them, maybe one could grow herbs. What would be fun with just a little larger aquarium would be growing Koi. They can be very beautiful & can be sold as pond fish when larger. Some info. here: http://feng-shui.love...
