Bee Keeping & Butter Making Workshop

EarthLinks' Community Links with Cowtown Grangers
Bee Keeping & Butter Making Workshop

Backyard beekeeping is now even easier with the Warre method. Judith Moran will introduce the "hands off" Warre style of bee management. The distinguishing feature of the Warre hive is that it is the most "no fuss" of hives. It requires far less management than the Langstroth or Kenyan/horizontal top bar hive. Participants will learn how to observe hives, receive a beekeeping checklist, and have an opportunity to discuss your beekeeping questions. Participants will also be able to taste local honey.

In the afternoon session Penelope Zeller, of the Cow Town Grangers, will teach how to make butter from whole cream. If you have never made butter it is time to learn! This is an easy process and lots of fun. Flavored butter, including honey butter, will be made. Each participant will take home samples of honey and flavored butters. Saturday, September 13, 2014

Shall we bring our lunches? I'm not familiar with the area or if there are restaurants nearby.

I would love to join for the Warre beekeeping in the AM! But since my son has a life-threatening food allergy to dairy and we don't keep butter in our house, I'll probably head out after the bees :)
