The Purpose of Our Group

From: Everett S.

I recently received an email from a member, who shall remain anonymous, with concerns about the "purpose" of our group. It is made clear on the home page, but I want to reiterate:

This group has no political, ideological or religious ties or motives. We accept and encourage participation from everyone and hope that we can all put aside difference and work toward common goals like self-sufficiency, frugal living and voluntary simplicity.

Occasionally we may hook up with other groups who have similar classes. If you feel like these groups are pushing any sort of political, ideological, religious agenda - please let me know. It is important that everyone feels comfortable in a learning situation.

Everyone has the right to post event announcements and information pertaining to Urban Homesteading on the forums. Sometimes politics and simple living skills overlap on certain issues. But when they don't, nobody should post event announcements or information that has nothing to do with Urban Homesteading.

HOWEVER: We are not anti-view either. It is fine to discuss your views with people who are interested in discussing them with you. It is fine to have discussions on the forums, including disagreements, as long as you are conducting yourself in a civil, adult manner. If you find anyone doing otherwise, please let me know.

Some of us believe global warming is caused, in part, by man. Some of us don't. Some of us believe in certain religions; others different religions or none at all. Some of us are Democrats, some Independents, some Libertarians and some Republican.

Let's all just be respectful and understand that the values held by ALL of us are often more in number and of greater importance than our ideological differences.

Thank you for understanding and being considerate of differing viewpoints.

Regards,

Everett Sizemore
