Hike at the Trexler Nature Preserve

Meet on the observation deck at the Trexler Environmental Education Center. Six mile hike on several different trails in the north and central ranges of the preserve. Roller-coaster hills lend this hike a MODERATE rating - work off that extra helping of mashed potatoes! Wear appropriate clothing for wind-exposed hilltops; bring snacks and fluids. Spectacular views! Leader: Dory Peterson [masked]) [masked]. This is my first Meet-Up event I am posting, so please let me know (nicely) if I screw something up!

It was freezing! Those hill-climbs helped keep me warm, though. It was nice to meet new people.

I'm here and trying to determine which trail was taken first. It took longer than I thought to get here

I wasn't online yesterday late afternoon and thus didn't know I was shifted out of the wait list to the attending list. Anyway, I look forward to a future hike and will more closely watch the wait list.

Just wanted to double check. I'm very excited about going, but not big on boulder scrambling. Is there any of that?

Wind braces us up, and snow is exhilarating! Keep telling yourself that (I do), but bring a scarf or something...there is no such thing as bad weather...just bad clothing for the weather. See you all tomorrow, and my cell phone is[masked] in case you are delayed or chicken out becuase we are in for some mighty, bitey, wind-chill!

Here is my cell phone number for use on Saturday:[masked]-4935. There are several people on the waiting list - I promise to do a winter hike in the preserve next quarter for those of you who miss this one!

Yes, from the observation tower we will take the red trail to the green, partially to the orange, partially to the white, partially to the blue, partially to the double red, and finish on the teal. We are not doing these trails in their entirety, except for the double red, which we will walk around completely towards the end of the hike. There are two covered bridges on this route, and if we are lucky we will see some elk or bison when we are on the blue trail. This area is supposed to be good for birding, if anyone is so inclined. If you can find the map on-line, you can probably figure out the hike route from my description here. There are supposedly maps at every kiosk (we go by ten kiosks), but I have often found the kiosks empty. If anybody wants a pdf link for the map, cut and paste: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B1hFt0Z3kBuuM2ZkNTdjNTgtMTk5ZS00Y2RlLWE0NGQtZDdiOGI5NjljN2U1/edit?pli=1
